Evaluation

what you wanted your overall ident campaign to look like and how it linked do the channels identity and audience?

i wanted my idents to look appealing to my audience and I wanted them to easily identify what my idents were about. By making use of basic conventions I was able to perform such a ident so that people understood where it came from for example in both my idents I used a type of humour that only Dave fans would know. It is a type of witty humour which is like a mature but funny type of humour. The same type of humour which is displayed in only fools and horses.  I done a summer and winter ident and I wanted both to have some form of comedy in them that related to Dave as this way viewers who are familiar with Dave would understand what I am trying to display. By choosing to do the ident based on a season in the year made it a whole lot easier and also made it more effective as I would have had a theme to use. By using a summer ident I was able to create such a ident that had a storyline with the type of humour which is frequented in the types of programmes Dave displays. With my ident for winter I was able to relate it to Christmas and this way I could also use Christmas related props in the ident. As you can clearly see here I am pictured wearing a Christmas themed jumper as this was one of the best ways to convey to my audience that the ident is based around Christmas time.  

 

Analyse each ident separately

Visually there were many changes however I feel as if these changes were made for the better for instance with editing I was able to narrow down on certain clips where I felt I was being boring or I just thought they were too long and boring for viewers. I used a simple cutting tool on final cut pro for this. I also used a transition in the editing process as this helped to diversify specific scenes. By adding these transitions I was able to go about scene to scene smoothly. I rarely used effects as I thought there wouldn't need to be any visual effects unless it was to import my television channel logo at the end which would have been the logo for Dave. There were drastic changes in all my drafts to my final edits with one being that both my drafts were initially going to take place at the same location. The feedback I got from the audience was very interesting to look at and most people thought that the overall difference from the drafts to the final edited piece was pretty good. 

The change in audio was one of the reasons why the final edit for both idents were so successful. I used audio in such a way that uplifted the idents. I used a jingle bells soundtrack for my final edit on the winter ident and this just made the scene feel a lot more Christmas themed and more people would have understood the theme for the ident. There again was not a lot of different audio effects added, I never used any voice overs or changed any diegetic sound as I thought this would make the idents confusing and it is something that I thought Dave wouldn't do. I felt as if programmes which were displayed on Dave never really used much voiceovers so if I was going to create a ident for a television channel and the ident had conventions and effects which didn't relate to the channel I was doing it for then it would've made no sense to viewers. However I felt as if the use of sound effects and soundtracks really helped to boost my final ident as it made it more believable and understanding to viewers. I got feedback from the viewers and I decided to change quite a lot of things on the final ident and I personally believe that by doing so it made the final pieces more successful overall.

 How much are the final idents similar or different to your original ideas on your blog? Why is that?

 My final idents were very different to my offline edits. My original ideas changed drastically because of all the editing although the ideas did remain the same throughout most of the process. Most of the ideas I had stayed the same such as for instance my ideas for my winter and summer idents were the same but its how I went about changing the offline and final edits which made that it that bit different. 

Overall the idea was always the same but just got slightly uplifted and easier for viewers to understand by adding in all that editing in that final piece for both idents. In the offline edit you can see that the themes are still there although they were much more noted and detailed in the final edits for example my offline edit for Christmas was just me in a Christmas jumper and I was hoping for people to understand the idents theme jst from the jumper however if you see in the final edit for winter the jingle bells soundtrack made the theme feel more like Christmas.





 

 

 

Production analysis

In this picture you can see I am about to star filming the winter ident and evidently quite alot had changed in terms of the final ident because I myself was not happy with my overall storyline. I felt as if the theme of the ident was not entirely met due to the fact that it was about christmas time and there was no theme in the orginal ident which linked with Christmas.
For this reason I then decided to film in a more homely setting and get my sibling to help out with filming and acting in the ident because essentially Christmas is about being with family. Therefore I altered the original ident by filming it at another location and I wore a christmas jumper just to enhance the Christmas vibe.

The ident was done for the television channel dave
which has the slogan " Home of witty banter" So I investigated the meaning and tried to incorporate the type of humour and comedy into my idents. I knew that the type of comedy portrayed in Daves programmes are simple yet effective. So in the winter one I decided to film a scene where my brother and I are watching a funny programme and I laugh to the point where I lose balance and fall off the sofa. I then had to add the Dave logo at the end to show that the ident was for Dave.

I felt as if by incorporating something as simple as a Christmas jumper it would signify the time of year and theme of the ident much better to my audience. As you can see here I am laughing hysterically however I am on the edge of the sofa not realising that I am at risk of falling over.


My summer ident changed drastically as well because initially I started off in the same location as my winter ident and in terms of clothing you couldnt really tell the difference and you most definately couldnt tell it was summertime. I tried to make it look as if it was summer by wearing a short sleeve shirt but in the end you couldn't tell so I then decided to change location again and wear a different t shirt. Alongside this I was drinking Pepsi and eating ice cream as well as continuously wiping sweat off my head to try and make it believable and realistic to viewers that this ident was related to summer.
Again the ident was for Dave so the idea I had this time was to be agitated due to the fact that it was so hot and to then have an idea that I could get an ice cream. As I sat down to enjoy the ice cream it fell out my hands and I was meant to look upset and this was the comedic part of the summer ident for Dave.

Post production process

Here is a screen grab of me editing my summer ident and in this edit I really wanted my viewers to gain a summer vibe and so for this reason I implemented a hot summers day sound effect which was imported through youtube because otherwise the ident just felt as if it was a regular ident and the whole purpose was to inform my viewers that I was doing a ident relating to a season. So because I was doing dave which is mainly a channel that airs comedy programmes I aimed to make the ident funny yet also have it somehow relate to summertime.

The way to do this was by essentially coming up with a storyline and ensuring I had a decent setting in which I filmed the ident and after carefully planning the ident I came up with the idea to film a ident where I was trying to survive in the heat and then I came up with a idea to drink Pepsi. After drinking the Pepsi I tried to give off the impression that the Pepsi did not satisfy me so I then wanted a ice cream and after walking outside to eat the ice cream I dropped the ice cream on the floor and the whole point was to try and be comedic so the audience know they are watching an ident for Dave.


Winter ident:
For my winter ident I aimed to make the whole theme
around Christmas because that's what people think when they

think about winter. Here is a picture of a Santa hat that I wanted to add to my Dave logo as it once again resembled Christmas.

For my Christmas ident I came up with the idea to seem upset and then my brother comes to get me and tells me to come and watch a funny programme to which I then laugh at and end up falling off the sofa and this type of comedy is similar to that which is portrayed on Dave so viewers would hopefully find the ident relatable to their favourite programmes which are showcased on Dave.

I also felt as if by wearing a Christmas jumper it would have made it easier for viewers to understand that the theme of the ident was around Christmas.











Here is a picture of me editing and I am importing sound effects and other effects to make the final ident look as good as it can possibly be. I also tried to make sure that I import specific effects which make the final edit relate to the season it is meant to be based around the best way I could.

Audience feedback questions

I asked some people questions about my ident and here are the questions I asked:

 1     What sound effects should I add to make certain scenes more interesting?

 2    Is the ident engaging for viewers and do they enjoy it ?

        3    What improvements are needed to make the ident look better?

  4      Does the ident fit with the season and can you easily identify the type of season it is?

Audience research

I asked a few questions to multiple people on what they thought of the ident and they responded.

Summer

1)For question one multiple people responded by saying that I should implement some type of sound effect that informs the users that it is summer and they said this can be things such as a sunny day sound effect where you can here a slight beat from the heat of the sun.

2)Mainly every said for question two that they enjoy the overall idea as it makes sense to do these things naturally when it is summer and they said it was also comedic which portrays a similar type of banter that Dave would show when it came to dropping the ice cream which is what I wanted to make it look like.

3) In terms of improvements People said I could have gave more facial expressions and hand gestures and also used a  variety of locations as the settings seemed basic however the storyline luckily balanced out the draft and made it slightly more interesting.

4) Everyone said the ident has a lot of features which inform them on the specific season I was going for such as the sweating effect and me using hand gestures to make it seem more realistic. They also said that normally you would want to eat an ice cream in summer which is why they could tell I was going for a summer storyline.

1) Question one everyone said that I should include any sound effects which related to winter so this was factors such as Christmas music and just jolly music in general as it would be Christmas time.

2) Everyone said the ident is engaging for viewers as it conveys how Dave would normally portray their dramas and programmes and that was with comedy and they said throughout the whole ident there was comedy

3) In terms of improvements everyone said that I needed to change up the location in order to make it seem more vibrant and the storyline was basic however it was funny which made it more engaging however there is definitely room for improvement.

4} People said it fitted well as the season was winter and they thought of Christmas and so by me wearing a Christmas jumper they all thought it was Christmas time so it made it more believable to viewers and by all characters wearing warm clothing in the ident it made it seem as if it was winter even more.
